Happy Birthday Dear Daughter

Little D,

Today, you turn a feisty four years old. I think back to that wonderful day four years ago when I first held you. At a whopping 8 lbs 11 ozs, with your beautiful dark skin, and a head full of dark hair, you were already making your mark on the world wailing in the way that only you can. Even then I could sense the sauciness in you that would only enhance with age. And I wasn’t wrong. Sometimes, you are a force to be reckoned with, but I’m glad I’m the one that gets to witness it. I’m thankful for the blessing that you are.

I want you to know that I think you’re sensational. You are smart, funny, happy, spirited, stubborn, affectionate, determined, playful, friendly, and strong. You don’t give up easily, which is wonderful because that means you will continue what you’ve started until it’s completed. I love everything about you.

You are very tempermental, unpredictable. You definitely keep us on our toes around here and I like that. Without even trying — unknowingly– you teach me something every day. You’re not afraid to show your emotions or to say what you think. I understand that you are only four right now, but you have a dominate personality. You have a mind of your own, very independent.

And you always have a smile for the people around you, unless of course, you are mad. You remind me so much of myself. I just hope that I can help you to have a less hurtful tongue. I tend to speak before I think. Beings you are so much like me, I want to teach you the opposite. I hope to help you learn to control your hot-headed-ness. But the smile…..oh, it’s an infectious one. And it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s lights up you whole face and shines in your eyes. Your energy radiates through the people around you.

Not only do I enjoy you, but I also enjoy watching you learn. And you learn quickly. Once you make up your mind about something, it’s hard to deviate from that until you have either accomplished whatever it is or until you’ve decided to quit. As you grew, we started toddler-proofing the house, but it didn’t matter. We had a harder time of trying to access what we child-proofed than you did. You always find a way!

Some of your favorite things include a baby doll that you carry around all the time, mothering her like you seen me mother. You are always the first to ask for family prayers at night. You always want me to hug your baby when I give you night snuggles. You love your daddy and your papa and your grandpa and Uncle Eddy. To be honest, you are a very loving child, but you are especially close with the male role models in your life. You love to play outside and do what the big kids are doing. You love to play in the dirt with the company of your baby doll.

And I encourage you, just be you. Always be you even if you march to the beat of your own drum.

Ahh, I love you so much. And you are absolutely amazing! I just wanted you to know how big of a blessing you are and to tell you Happy Birthday ♥
