Blessed with Boys

For almost all of their lives, the people I love (kids, spouse, family) got the credit for me getting up each morning. I have since learned, God is my greatest motivator. He is the reason I get up each morning. Every single day is one more chance to thank God for all that I’ve been blessed with. Every single day is more chance for me to sing God’s praises. Every single day is one more day with the people I love.

Every.

Single.

Day.

Counts.

Every single day my husband and I get one more chance to teach these young boys/men to grow into God-loving, faithful men who walk with great passion for Christ, integrity, and love for all people. I pray that we are teaching them to make sound decisions, to be steadfast and to solve their problems with goodness for another in mind rather than themselves.

Only through God can we accomplish the task of raising sons obedient to the Lord.

These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. ~ Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Raising Little Children

286

And so train the young women to love their husbands and children,  to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. Titus 2:4-5 (ESV)

I remember from childhood how much I loved my mom being home and how hard it was for my sisters and I went she joined the working community. When I grew up and had my own children, being home was important to me. However, by this time, moms everywhere worked so being a stay-home mom was not as popular. I remember feeling very put on the spot when people would find out that’s what I did all day, every day. I got commendations for choosing that life, but I got judgement, too.

Over the years, I’ve had jobs here and there, but nothing ever lasted longer than 8-9 months. During that time, it would start to really be a burden not to be home caring for my youngsters, but paying someone else to do it. Of course, once this hit me, I had a few more children to contend with. At this point, my husband and I decided that it would be better for me to stay home. So, I did. For years, I’ve been a stay home mom and I’m okay with that. In fact, I would rather it be that way. My children not only need me to be home, but we want them to learn who we are and what we believe. Teaching them the importance of God and faith can’t be done by someone else. God has called me to be a wife and a mother; therefore, it is I who can best teach my little girls that role.

It is not up to me how other women raise their children, under what beliefs, or with what faith, but for me…..It’s important to my husband and I that I be my children’s teacher, of life and faith throughout the day. Honestly, house and home fell apart during each of my employed stints and it just wasn’t worth it. What they are learning during these precious childhood years will last through their life; therefore, teaching them the word of God is crucial to us.

Because, as everyone knows, with God anything is possible. Without him, nothing.

Learning from the Children

Children have been, are, and always will be a blessing from God. Adults can learn just as much from a child as a child learns from an adult. Parents every, please be attentive to your children. Let them teach you something.

Love and Faithfulness

Choices are ours throughout the day every day. Making the choice to love your spouse and to stay faithful brings great reward from God into your life, your marriage. Being involved in your marriage, completely loving your spouse, praying together every day, and studying scripture lessen the chances of infidelity. God bless all marriages today.

Always Choose Kindness

1-9

The other day, my son stayed with a neighbor for a couple of hours because I had errands to run. He also happens to be good friends with her daughter. They go to school together although the daughter is a year ahead of my son. They’ve always gotten along so well. I love it! Anyway, the daughter is scheduled to have surgery and while with them for that couple of hours, my son offer this girl his help at school once she returns by “carrying her backpack or whatever.” He also told her that he’d “bring her any school work that she is missing just in case she isn’t able to return when planned.”

That evening upon my return home, and my son’s return, I called my neighbor to apologize for being later than I thought and send my prayers for her daughter with the upcoming surgery. During our conversation, she passed along the above conversation to me and let me know how impressed she was with his kindness.

I will tell you what, there are no better words in the world than hearing from someone how behaved, kind, and respectful your children are. It’s like a breath of fresh air! As I’m sure many parents do, sometimes I doubt my abilities as a mother so my neighbors kind words are much appreciated.

Anywho, just a small reminder that kindness goes a long way whether it benefits you personally or not, it benefits someone else. Isn’t that a goal we should all try to reach?

Kindness.

All Saints Day

In honor of All Saints Day, here are the Eight Beatitudes as a reminder of how to attain happiness. I hope you all have a blessed day.

  1. Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven
  2. Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
  3. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
  4. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
  5. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
  6. Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.
  7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.
  8. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Lord, make us all instruments of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, let us sow pardon; where there is doubt, let us show faith; where there is despair, let us have hope; where there is darkness, replace it with light; and where there is sadness, replace it with hope. I pray that we can especially offer love to all, forgiveness where needed, and mercy to all in our paths today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Over Coffee Post #3

Hey! How are you doing?

I know, it’s been so long since we last spoke!

Sure, we can grab coffee. There’s a place around the corner.

If we were having coffee right now, the first thing I’d say is it’s been too long.

If we were having coffee right now, I would ask about you and your family. I’d want to know all the details of how you are doing.

If we were having coffee right now, I’d tell you about the kids and how well that are doing in school as well as how much they like the school they attend. I’d also tell you how excited we are that we are able to keep them in the Catholic school where they attend.

If we were having coffee right now, I’d tell you about my day-to-day happenings with the girls that are still to young for school. We try to stay busy with projects around the house.

If we were having coffee right now, I would have to tell you about my most recent out of state trip. New Orleans! Since it’s been so long since we spoke, I’m sure you didn’t even know that I went.

If we were having coffee right now, I would talk to you about starting back to church and getting my life as a wife and mother back on track. It never really derailed, but it was headed in that direction. Thankfully, the Lord has shown me a better way.

If we were having coffee right now, I’d tell you all about my oldest daughter’s diagnosis and what the doctors say about it in regard to what it is exactly and how to proceed in repairing it. I’d fill you in on the doctor’s appointments we’ve had and ones we have left. I’d tell you how thankful I am that her diagnosis isn’t as bad as some people’s, how much of a blessing that it.

If were were having coffee right now, I’d ask your advice on how to proceed forward in a charity project that I’d like to take part in for the area where I live.

If we were having coffee right now, I would happily tell you about the newest addition to our home, our little puppy Ruthie. She’s a mix of chocolate Lab, maybe Blue Healer, and German Short-hair as far as I know, might be more or less. I’m not sure exactly, but I love her to pieces! We’ve had a couple of dogs that I didn’t want to take care of so we got rid of them, but I’m really glad we have her. And I don’t mind take care of her which is possibly credited to only having two kids at home during the day these days as opposed to having 3-6 at home. Plus, the boys are older and are able to help with Ruthie in the evenings when they’re home.

If we were having coffee right now, I’d tell you of the day of sadness yet happiness that looms over me like an ugly, dark, rain cloud that hovers overhead before a nasty storm. My oldest will graduate this year. Although I am excited for him, I’m also a little sad. He’s my baby who’s no longer a baby. I look forward to his graduation, but it also brings some anxiety about his future. Mostly, though, it’s because he’s that much closer to being grown. I’m not ready for that!

If we were having coffee right now, I’d also tell you of his relationship and how much he’s changed over the last year. The girl is one of the sweetest people I know, but they are both young. I pray for them all the time. Honestly, I’d like to see them complete their schooling (college) and make a life together. But, God’s will before mine. He’s knows everything so I trust His plan.

If we were having coffee right now, the ending would be something like: Oh no, look at the time! My goodness, I have to get going…..responsibilities awaiting me. I’m so happy we ran into one another. Thank you for having coffee with me. We will definitely have to get together again soon — me: ridiculously pushing time. Always!

Teach Children of God’s Love

Every morning my girls and I say morning prayers and every evening we all say prayers together before bed — we try to anyway. Sometimes the boys pray by themselves, but regardless, teaching children praying is extremely important to our family. Their salvation is just as important to me as my own.

Love is…….

Every day, hour, even every minute, there is something in our lives that we should be thankful for. Love is the best thing we can do for anyone.
