What is Grace?

So often we hear the word grace. Some – like me – may wonder what it is and if it can be attained through our actions? Is it something we have, something we get, or something we give? Is it passed from person to person (maybe a silly question, but you never know) not so much like a sickness, but through action or word?

To understand where I’m coming from, I must give you a shortened version of my story. When I met my husband, I didn’t go to church. I have always believed in God and had even been baptized in the Pentecostal faith as a child, but didn’t build a relationship with Him. My husband, Catholic all his life, was in not such a good place in his life so he wasn’t going to church either. It took us three to four years before we started going to church. We had our twin sons, bought a home in a small community, and started going to the local parish. For a looonnng time, I would join him and the kids in church, but since I wasn’t Catholic, I didn’t engage, so to speak. We went on like that for awhile before we eventually stopped going. After awhile, we started going again. At this point, through discussion with my husband and with prayer, I made a choice to become Catholic. We also had our vows blessed in the eyes of the Church as we had gotten married by Justice of the Peace. Again, we quit attending church. Soon enough, our lives started to come unwound. At one point I was completely convinced my husband was going to get a divorce. I started praying and praying and praying some more. I attended church with my children and his parents – he was out of town. I started studying scripture and asking God to change my heart. I realized I couldn’t keep asking, demanding, or manipulating change in my husband and give nothing of myself. I also realized that with God, as cliche as it sounds, anything is possible. Without Him, nothing is possible.

So, grace. Through all of my reading and studying, I have learned that grace is God’s goodness to us that we do not deserve, but He gives because He loves us. We can’t give grace like we would give a piece of candy, but we can extend grace to others in our actions and words, such as giving apologies, offering forgiveness, saying thank you, speaking to others with kindness even when we have a few choice words we’d like to say instead, and helping others in small ways – holding the door for someone.Through God’s grace, we are saved:

… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus … Romans 3:23-24

I hope you all have a blessed day.

Hey yall, I just want to say Praise the Lord! God is so good! Praise the Lord!

Today was a hard day for me, but after pretty much 1/2 the day sending up my prayers, God has healed my broken heart of today.

I am ready for whatever trials and/or triumphs that I may endure or enjoy tomorrow.

Praise the Lord!

I’m so excited with His presence in my life, I don’t really even know what to say

other than…..
